SoTL: Ethical dilemmas in conducting research on your teaching

As a lecturer, should you leave the room when course evaluation is being discussed? Can you use student-submitted essays for analysis? How do you avoid exposing students to well-intentioned but perhaps less effective interventions? As an instructor, can you be both the teacher and the researcher? Should you always submit your research to the ethics committee?

In this session, we will discuss ethical dilemmas when doing practice-based higher education research (also known as Scholarship of Teaching and Learning). They will also share practical tips on seeking ethical consent for educational research within your faculty.
